(Book #1 of Love me With Lies)
My Ratings: 4/5 stars
Genre: New Adult, Romance
About this Book:
Olivia Kaspen has just discovered that her ex-boyfriend, Caleb Drake, has lost his memory. With an already lousy reputation for taking advantage of situations, Olivia must decide how far she is willing to go to get Caleb back. Wrestling to keep her true identity and their sordid past under wraps, Olivia’s greatest obstacle is Caleb’s wicked, new girlfriend; Leah Smith. It is a race to the finish as these two vipers engage in a vicious tug of war to possess a man who no longer remembers them. But, soon enough Olivia must face the consequences of her lies, and in the process discover that sometimes love falls short of redemption.
Tarryn Fisher and her love stories are so maddening. The characters and writing are intense to a level where it makes you go ‘Damn’. But it is always so captivating to the point of obsession. After finishing this book, I immediately had to jump to the second and then the third. Mainly here are three characters to this trilogy.
Olivia, the self-destructive one.
Caleb, the unforgettable one. (Irony)
Leah, the dirty player.
I loved Olivia’s character from the moment she said ‘I’ll go with you if you miss it.’
I loved Caleb from the moment he did miss the shot. Then there is Leah about whom I had mixed feelings since the start but they got worse after reading Dirty red.
The story is about obsessive love that just punches you in the gut and refuses to let the pain go away. Truly, that is how I felt while reading this book. there were amazing quirky moments and nice situations that made me smile but also the gut-wrenching intensity of passion that I compelled myself to believe that they belonged to each other, toxic as it may be.
The book starts with Olivia meeting Caleb years after they had broken up but Caleb has amnesia and has forgotten everything.
She just wants him back till the time he regains his memories and everything that happened between the two. We get glimpses into the past and how their story began while in the future, they hang out together and there’s this love triangle going on which I usually hate but this time I didn’t mind because Tarryn knows how to get them exactly right.
To be honest, when I read the name of the book, I was pretty sure, this was going to be about a gold digger who actually falls for the guy in the end. Glad it wasn’t cliche like that.
Plus Tarryn’s writing always blows me away.
It was like the old wound opened itself up again and I was bleeding out my feelings for you.” I close my eyes at his words. Words that I want to hear badly but that are making my heart ache so terribly I can barely breathe.
“You will remember every day for the rest of your life because I was the one and you threw me away.”
“Go be with your husband … before he realises that he’s still in love with me”
“I think that after the first time you give your heart away, you never get it back. The rest of your life is just you pretending that you still have a heart.”
