This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I think I might start reading more of her books soon.
“That’s how you get a girl to stop crying, you cover her mouth. ”
The book is Courtney Summer’s take on what Feminism actually means and how RAPE destroys a person’s life. Feminism is not limited to man-hating but it means standing up for your friend when she suffers through something.
Rape is a horrendous act that destroys a person’s life and if someone does victim-blaming, that ruins a person entirely.
This book is also about bullying and how the main character is just living a hellish life. After all that she sees in this book, it would be hard for a reader to recover from that.
I, as a reader, had more rage than the main character and I believe everyone should feel that way. Contemporary books like these are important because they talk about the real social evils that we still have to fight. It teaches you to empathise with such situations and tells you what you should and should not do.
While the book may haunt your conscience and make you feel bad, it is pertinent that you read it to be a good person.
